Irish Sports News Discussion:     Being a traitor

Firstly, it's only a game.

Secondly, I'm nervous about typing the following but it's bugging me so I have to:

Ireland aren't in the World Cup.

I've lived in England for 18something years. Am I a traitor for rooting for England?

A few Irish/Irish descent people I've spoken to are shocked that I could feel like England are the natural second for me to support now that Ireland aren't playing.

Would my forefathers be spinning in their grave? Is it an insult to what they've done?

It's not meant to be. Just feels the natural thing to do, considering I live here. I'm not a wannabe English person (in fact, I hate London) but I don't hate anyone or here.

I'm watching the first match that England are in tomorrow, in the company of my 3 English nieces down in Portsmouth. I've bought them a 5ft x 3ft England Flag and hope to find some face paint on the way down to see them so I can paint the England flag all over their mushes. I defy anyone to say they'd not let my nieces paint their face with an England flag if they said they wanted to.

I feel bad though because I'm wondering if there's something wrong with me, considering so many people (from home) have kinda said they can't wait for England to be booted out or that they'd never support England etc.
