Sceala Irish Craic Forum Discussion:     List Of treasure Robbed From Ireland In the British Museum

ye asked the other day how could Ireland be conquered so easily. the typical reaction is to look at the divide and conquer and the fact that Ireland like all other cultures has at its base a group of different cultures and clanns (tribes). All ye had to do then was to divide and keep divided.

I replied that myself, but there is at least one major aspect to my knowledge never discussed as to why Ireland was so easy to keep down.

Dungarvin was right it never was conquered it was just run by ruthless and greedy.

Every generation has produced rebellion against that selfish dividing greed.

sometimes in a fashion that had no idea why they were rebels but religious symbolism, ironically actively encouraged by the greedy system that was set up to divide it.

Anyway it is the same reason why Roman Catholicism managed to entrance many native cultures.

The beauty in its words and art.

the Irish tribes whilst ready to fight their own shadows let alone strangers Laughing

Aspired to the arts, not stolen arts but their own

very intense intrinsic arts.

the same arts that were almost wiped away for ever from general memory of the average Irish person.

The skills of the mason, and jewelers today have never been as strong.

So the Irish were not conquered, just subdued.

and subdued because as a cultural system it has more aspiration to culture and the arts than power.

in fact the Irish in Ireland have no aspiration to power in comparison to any modern nation.

that is the best thing that comes out of Ireland, we are so happy and secure we really could not give a feck about what other might have or are up to.

except recently sadly it seems we have changed all that and many are throwing that one unargue able beauty away as we sit and watch others moronic television programmes.
