Irish History Forum Discussion:     Lord Derry and WWII
I was reading an article today about Lord Derry and his approach to WWII - was it an approach at "peaceful coexistance" with Germany or "gullibility" on his part by Hitler and Goerring.

It raised some interesting questions about what would've happened to the British Empire had they tried to contain Germany as opposed to going to war. The idea is that the entirety of the British Empire would've collapsed under the weight - that they would've merely become another European country, left with no choice but to back Germany when the Germans inevitably came after the US.

I'm wondering what effect that would have had on Ireland -- if the British Empire had ceased to exist basically? I know its a pointless hypothetical question, but those of us who are enamoured by history like to ask pointless hypothetical questions. Laughing
