I walked alone one bright clear dawn
Late in the month of may
While overhead the birds they made
Exquisite sounds in tune.

My land from high as I look down
Retains it's vivid colours
The stretching trees out wide and high
The awakening springing flowers.

In the distance mountains high
Broad proud shoulders to the sky
Defying yet the urge of man
To conquer or to die.

Then gazing at the winding streams
Reflecting back their silver beams
To beacon natures wonderous yields
On a dawning Irish day.
