My (barely edited) first attempt at a 'poem' in YEARS

Calling

Travel to Ireland, I’ve only done once
Last summer; its beauty was great
From Dublin went north, but I am no dunce
For westward was calling – my fate
To Sligo we travelled, and lovely it was
Tho’ I got a ticket for parking
in the mail two months later it came; I did wail
but paid it without too much barking.
We went to Achille, so stark yet so striking
were it’s hills and its beaches alike
the sheep didn’t mind the wind at its half-gale
- not so, my Uncle Mike

‘bout half-way on our journey I found
the place that I could call home
the people, the music – a lovely sound
it inspired a (sort of) poem
I could talk for a spell
Of many things I would tell,
But I’m trying to keep this short
The town I found so smart, that
Captured my heart
Was none other than - Westport
