NOT A CHORD OF IRISH MUSIC

The bar was filled with noise and smoke
The Stones were playin’ loud
Shamrock antennas blinking green
Adorned half the crowd

Not a chord of Irish music
Buck two eighty can of beer
No one even bats an eyelash
St. Patrick’s Day is here

I was longin’ for the whistle
For the bodhran’s drivin’ beat
A fiddle and the thrill of pipes
A jig beneath my feet

But the Stones just keep on playin’
Twenty more kids just rolled in
Standing room only up at the bar
All I bloody hear is din

Not a chord of Irish music
But everybody here
Wears a button says they’re Irish
And drinks buck two eighty beers

There’s not a seat to rest my bones
We’re packed like cheap sardines
‘Cept we’re not rollin’ in mustard sauce
We’re rollin’ in the green

What happened to the old days
When we wore the shamrock proud?
Said a prayer for dear St. Patrick
And sang “Danny Boy” out loud?

What happened to the cheerin'
For "The Fields of Athenry"?
The empassioned cries for Bobby
Baby, Let the Free Bird Fly!

Not a chord of Irish music here
Suddenly, I feel alone
It’s St. Patrick’s Day in America
God, I wish I were back home…
