Sceala Irish Craic Forum Discussion:     Donegal islands first to vote in Irish election
The Polls for the Irish general election 2007 have officially opened on the five islands off the coast of Donegal. Polling booths are open now for voting on the Donegal islands of Arranmore, Tory, Gola, Inisfree and Inisboffin.
The islanders have traditionally balloted ahead of the rest of Ireland because of the potential difficulties, such as bad weather, preventing them getting to the Irish mainland in time to vote.
The two polling stations on Arranmore, the largest of the islands, are open from 10.30am to 7.30pm, while on Tory the polling station is set up in the national school and open from 11am until 3pm.
Voters on the islands off the coast of Mayo will go to the polls tomorrow.
The outcome of the election in Irelasnd is still in doubt, polls are now contradicting on a daily basis.
