The Rape Crisis Network has reportedly found that Ireland has the worst record in Europe when it comes to successfully prosecuting rape and other sex crimes. The Network's research found that 95% of rape cases reported to Gardaí never even reach the courts.
The situation for victims is shocking given that less than 10% of rape and sexual assault cases are reported to the Gardaí in the first place.
Ireland's record of shame in prosecuting rapists is blamed upon, a lack of public confidence in the legal system and the garda ability to investigate sex crimes.
The study has found that more than one woman is raped every day in Dublin alone.
