Republic up three places in FIFA rankings
Spain maintained their place on top the FIFA world rankings, with the Republic of Ireland moving up three places to 33.
The World Cup winners, also the reigning European champions, remain at the top of the standings despite going down 4-1 to Argentina in a friendly, ahead of the Netherlands and Germany.
Giovanni Trapattoni's side have made a good start to the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with two wins from two, and will hope to move further up the pecking order with a successful assault on the Euros which continues with matches against Russia and Slovakia in October. The latter have moved up 11 places in the rankings and now stand 16th.
England have moved up one place to six. Northern Ireland have junped 14 places to 45th, Scotland are 47th, with Wales 84th.
France's recent poor form has dropped them to an all-time low of 27th, despite a recent victory over Bosnia.
