IN THE HEART OF THE MIDLANDS

In the heart of the Irish Midlands
The rolling hills...soft in the distance
One can see forever
Across the span of Ireland
Or so it seems this day...

Perhaps not to the sea
No...but one feels it on the perimeter
Its heart beating
Feel the draw of the tides
Pushing inward...pulling out
Pulsating life through the rivers
That run through it...

The beauty here is quieter
Like the shy sister who hides her beauty
Behind a veil of demurity
The cry of the ocean muted
The lure of the mountains subdued
But beauty does not have to be a queen
For queens can be difficult and fickle
And lose their glow rapidly
Without a crown of jewels
Off which to reflect

The beauty of the Midlands
In the whispering rush of the wind
Over grassy plains
Blue skies and white clouds
That roll on forever
Or at least until
A grey storm rushes in
And its fast and furious tears
Nourish the land
And replentish the lifeforce of its earth

The Irish Midlands
Forgotten by the tourists...

A secret hidden
A treasure found...
