Irish Language Forums Discussion:     Well Known Irish Words
As in the old Irish and Irish American songs and festivals and holidays there are many Irish words that are slipped in and used.

Many you have heard or even said but may not have known the meaning.

So, I want to add some and hope there are some that you can remember and add... tell me of some... even if you don't know th meaning so we can see if we can find the translations..

For instance, the famous old song... Mother McCree (sp?) , as most know it and is actually...... Mother mo chroí...

(this also provides a good example, as shown on the section regarding aspirations... you see that the "h" in the word "chroí" provides the secret of pronouncing the ch as "k" or a hard "c" unlike the English way of prouncing as "ch" as in the word chicken)

Tranlates to:

a ghrá mo chroí

... love of my heart
