SHIP OF FRIENDS

(for my oldest and dearest buddy, Deb)

There is a small but mighty ship
We sail our whole lives through
Though seas be calm or rocky
Whether skies be gray or blue

This most seaworthy vessel
Docks at many ports of call
A ship for many seasons
Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall

And even should it go off course
In uncharted waters stray
We need not fear the murky depths
For our ship's beam lights the way

The crew may change from time to time
But if our Captain's strong and true
We need not worry needlessly
Old mates shall be made of new

This Ship of Friends that carries us
Over the waters of our life
Effortlessly does so
In times of joy as well as strife

But if we are not careful
Our ship may run aground
Caution must be taken that
Our crew of mind be sound

And not only be sound of mind
But pure of heart as well
For a mutiny can capsize us
In one monumental swell

May yer voyage on this Ship of Friends
Last a lifetime, beginning to end
For there is no smoother sailing
Than to sail through life with a friend
