The Sea Rock

I hold the small black rock in my hand
Dreaming of the sea
It is cool and smooth
Sharp edges erased by time and waves
By sands rough and distant
It brings to mind the silver gray iridescence
The ever changing blue green waters
Lapping, singing, harkening me
Do I not know the siren’s song?
The eternal longing, the glistening want of it…

I hold the smooth blackness in my palm
Coveting the memories
They are warm and soft
Sharp edges erased by time and waves
By life’s rough handling
It brings to mind the grayness of my world
The ever present black and white footage
Holding me, rendering me captive
I know the siren’s song
The eternal longing to follow it back to you…
