Irish History Forum Discussion:     Vikings and Pirates sail into Ireland

Just as Ireland prepares for the arrival of the Vikings, Pirates have caught us napping.
Sneaking in quietly behind our defences, the Black Pearl has dropped anchor in Ireland, and beware for she is aiming to steal Irish hearts. The Pirate ship captained by Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean films has docked in Derry.

HMS Bounty, which stars as Black Pearl in the pirate adventure movies, has made an unscheduled stop in the port of Derry in the North of Ireland.
The ship was originally built in 1962 for the film Mutiny on the Bounty, the stopover is to facilitate essential repairs.
The US-based tall ship will be open to the Irish public between 1000 BST and 1700 BST on Saturday.
The pirate ship has just completed a $3m restoration and is undertaking a world tour
The Bounty's height meant she had to lower her mast to get into Queen's Quay in Derry on Wednesday, where she is expected to stay until Sunday.
The Assistant Harbour Master with Derry Port, Bill Martin, said they were "absolutely delighted" to accommodate the vessel, which at 55m long, is a full-size replica of the original. He said it was a "beautiful sight to see the ship coming up the Foyle" to the quay. Although her arrival was not known in advance, around 150 people gathered at Queen's Quay to see her dock,"

Meanwhile the Viking ship, The Sea Stallion is sailing in Irish waters. The Vikings are now near the famous mountains of mourne, and are on course for the scheduled arrival in Dublin on tuesday.
