Irish Poetry Writers Forum Discussion:     Holding tight .
Down behind the old wrecked cottage
we stood holding close whispering
secrets and plans for us alone
the wind made us shiver draw near

My Mammy didnt know we were to leave
your dad knew even less , he didnt know me
you held me close and explained the day
we would choose to sail ..well away

No use for sentiment you said , just us leave
for whats for us my pretty maid
just work and more to come
owning nothing as ours for you and me

so we stood huddled in the cold dark night
waiting on the boat to take us far
leaving letters saying we are gone
I miss my home already and know im not far

want to leave and run for home little as it is
ditch this notion of love
kiss my Mammy and my brother too
instead I hold hands and leave with you .
