'TWEEN THE HEDGEROWS

Ye kissed me 'tween the hedgerows
Ye gave me little warnin'
The month of June was drawin' closed
As the mysts rose up that mornin'

And as the mysts rose over Birr
So did my cautious heart
I let myself reach out to ye
Though I knew one day we'd part

A stolen kiss, a hope restored
Ye gave me little choice
'Tis human nature to sing again
When given back its' voice

Ye say ye are in prison
And ye never shall be free
Ah but what, dear one, is freedom
Without love's sanctity?

Sure, 'tis not the fallin' in of love
That causes us such pain
But the fallin' out of love
That brings on our tears like rain

Do not despair, ye have my love
Ye have my friendship, too
And now ye have my loyalty
To always see ye through

Ye kissed me 'tween the hedgerows
As the sun burned off the myst
And ye kissed me as I never have
In my life, e're been kissed

So go back to yer prison
'Till yer jailer unlocks the door
One day a free man ye will be
I'll wait till then and more...
