Irish Language Forums Discussion:     Gaelscoil and Immigrants learning Irish

Great programme on TG4 yesterday.

Showing kids from all over attending a Gaelscoil. There were young kids on there from many different ethnic backgrounds, and amongst whom many will go on to be more a credit to this nation and culture than many so called born and breds.

All the schoolkids looked enthusiastic; with obvious good teachers and assisitants. One little girl from Nigeria was simply fantastic to listen to as she explained in Irish how much she loved the language and culture. And like wise to listen to her Mum describe how happy she was that her daughter was a real 'Irish girl and always engrossed by the culture.

Gaelscoils are imo way ahead of other schools (I wish I went to one as, I might have wanted to attend) every teacher I have come across in them are first rate educators; not just in Irish, I mean generally they are far more enthusiastic than the counterparts in standard schools.

I said it before it is no surpise to me that so many top business folk(many speaking another language as well as English) were educated in Irish.
