A new 50-bed private hospital, which could provide radiotherapy treatment for cancer sufferers in NW Ulster, is being proposed for County Donegal.
Northwest Healthcare, a private healthcare consortium is planning to build the €60million hospital close to Letterkenny General Hospital. If approved the new Donegal hospital will include facilities for renal dialysis, surgery, X-ray, CT, MRI and Pet scanners.
Though private hospital funding is currently a very controversial issue in Ireland, this private facility may be welcomed, especially by those people of the North of Ireland suffering from forms of cancer, many of who currently need to make the long return journey to Dublin for radiotheraphy treatment.
