INLA man found dead in cell

John Kenneway one of the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) men who shot dead the British Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF) leader Billy Wright, has been found dead in his cell in Maghaberry Prison yesterday evening.
It is understood that Mr Kenneway, who recently returned to prison after his early release licence was revoked, was found hanged in his cell. British Minister in charge of the North Peter Hain, had suspended his early release licence because he has been charged with a number of other offences. "I believe him to be a danger to the public," he was quoted as saying.
Last week, Mr Kenneway was refused compassionate temporary release to attend the Christening of a grandchild. His family, the police and the coroner have been informed of the death.
He was part of a group of INLA prisoners who shot dead LVF leader, Billy Wright, in the Maze Prison in December 1997.
The LVF leader was shot dead in jail by 3 INLA prisoners who ambushed him inside the high-security prison. Wright had got into a prison van to be taken to the visitors' area of the jail, when the INLA prisoners climbed over the roof of the H-block and into the prison yard. Three INLA prisoners, including Kenneway, were later convicted of the killing.
The Prison Ombudsman is now investigating the death
The death coincides with a public inquiry into Mr Wright's murder which began in Banbridge last month.
It was set up following an investigation by retired Canadian judge Peter Cory after Wright's father, David, claimed the murder was the result of collusion involving the British security forces.
