President Obama will visit Ireland 2011.
President Obama chose St. Patrick's Day to announce that he’s adding Ireland to the itinerary for his trip to Europe in May.

Some ideas about the itinerary of Obama's visit to Ireland.

US President Barack Obama cannot cross the border into Northern Ireland during his Irish trip unless he first travels to London, Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said.
The Government is gearing up for the historic May visit after President Obama announced on St Patrick's Day that he wanted to return to his roots in Moneygall, Co Offaly.
But the Taoiseach said that under diplomatic rules the president cannot cross the border without first setting foot in Britain.
"The problem actually is that the president, under existing protocol, he's not allowed to go to the north of Ireland without first having to go to Britain," Mr Kenny said.
"So if President Obama were to decide to go close to the border, actually from a protocol perspective he's expected to go to London before he would go to Northern Ireland."

I guess this is because Nothern Ireland is not a real/official country nation. And England likes to be in control of what the natives might say.

President Obama and Taoiseach Enda Kenny of Ireland speak to the press after meeting in the Oval Office on St. Patrick's Day. March 17, 2011.

Obama described the "incredible bond between our two countries" and promised economic assistance.
"We have had an excellent conversation about how Ireland is going to be bouncing back from the severe economic challenges that it has experienced over the last several years," he said.
Kenny said he was "absolutely thrilled" and rightly milked the US visit for as much as he could get, thanking the US for so much direct investment in Ireland but reminding the US that Ireland now reciprocates with "80,000 American jobs" created by Irish firms in the USA.
The timing of the visit won't be lost – it can only help Kenny defy European critics of Ireland's low corporate tax rate that has attracted so many US companies to Ireland.

The news will come as a shock to the government, which was expecting him to spend at least an overnight here, Niall O’Dowd, editor of the Irish Voice and founder of IrishCentral.com suggests.
One White House insider called it a “hot minute” trip when asked to describe it, O’Dowd adds.
The draft outline of his trip see Obama arrive into Dublin for several events, and then flying onto his ancestral home at Moneygall, where his helicopter will land on the local GAA field.
He will hang around for several events in the village before hotfooting it to Britain, where he’s taking part in a state visit.
O’Dowd adds that Obama is making the trip “purely at the behest of American Ambassador Dan Rooney who had played a key role in Obama’s victory in Pennsylvania”.
However, officials have said that the programme for the trip could change as the date looms, and there is an awareness in the White House that such a short stay could have more negative than positive consequences.
